On Tuesday, actor Ben Stiller stood up against cancel culture and reinforced that he will not apologize for the movie Tropic Thunder, a movie that came out nearly 15 years ago in 2008.
Stiller wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the movie.
The topic resurfaced online when Stiller replied to a tweet that claimed that he had apologized for the film.
“[Ben Stiller] Please stop apologizing for doing this movie. It was and still is funny AF… Even funnier now with cancel culture the way it is. It’s a MOVIE,” wrote user Benny S. on Twitter. “Ya’ll can just get over it. I was DYING laughing when I first saw it back in the day and so was everyone else.”

In response, the actor said he makes no apologies for the satirical film in which he had a starring role: “I make no apologies for Tropic Thunder. Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it.”

The recent stand is in reference to Robert Downey Jr., who plays method actor Kirk Lazarus in the movie, altering his skin tone to look black in order to show satirically the length to which actors go to achieve fame and awards.
While Stiller refused to apologize for this depiction, he did apologize for another scene in the movie that depicted Stiller playing a mentally handicapped character to win an Oscar, as reported by Breitbart.
In response to that scene, the Special Olympics, National Down Syndrome Congress, and multiple other organizations boycotted the film, something that Stiller noted in a 2018 tweet.
“Actually Tropic Thunder was boycotted 10 years ago when it came out, and I apologized then. It was always meant to make fun of actors trying to do anything to win awards,” he wrote. “I stand by my apology, the movie, Shaun White, And the great people and work of the [Special Olympics].”

It seems like the left’s attempt to cancel yet another hilarious film has been squandered by someone who actually has the guts to stand up against them. More Americans should follow Ben Stiller’s lead and refuse to apologize for actions or productions just to alleviate the emotions of radicals.
