'I Want Answers': Trump Family Demands Answers After Police Failed To Protect President Trump During Assassination Attempt

On Tuesday, former First Lady Melania Trump posted a video to social media demanding answers following the attempted assassination of her husband on July 13 by 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks in Butler, Pennsylvania. Due to a major security failure by the Secret Service, 45th President Trump was grazed by the gunman on his right ear, one supporter was killed, and two others were seriously injured. A Secret Service countersniper team eliminated the would-be assassin as local police descended on his location.

After nearly two months of investigations, Secret Service resignations, and multiple theories about the assassination attempt, Melania Trump, dressed in black, demanded in a video posted to X that the truth needed to be uncovered. "The attempt to end my husband's life was a horrible, distressing experience. Now, the silence around it feels heavy," she said. "I can't help but wonder: why didn't law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech? There is definitely more to this story, and we need to uncover the truth."

In response to the call for answers, Eric Trump echoed Melania's plea, writing, "I want answers as well. Something is being hidden." During a recent interview earlier this month, the Republican presidential candidate revealed what it was like for Melania and his 18-year-old son Barron to hear the news that he'd been shot. "[Melania] was watching it on television, and Barron was outside having a tennis lesson. He's a good tennis player. He was outside playing tennis, and somebody ran up, 'Barron, Barron, your father's been shot," Trump said. "He went, and he loves his father. He's a good kid, good student, good athlete, actually. And he ran, 'Mom, what's going on?' She couldn't believe it. She was actually watching it live, can you imagine? And I got up and let people know I was okay."

The former first lady's post included a link to her upcoming memoir that is set to release on October 1. The memoir's description, found on melaniatrump.com, describes the book as a "powerful and inspiring story of a woman who has defined personal excellence, overcome adversity, and carved her own path. The former First Lady invites readers into her world, offering an intimate portrait of a woman who has lived an extraordinary life." According to the site, the book will include stories and images never seen by the public before.

"Writing my memoir has been an amazing journey filled with emotional highs and lows," Melania explained to Fox News. "Each story shaped me into who I am today." While the former first lady has largely kept out of the media spotlight amid her husband's high-stakes election campaign, she has held several fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and called for unity after the attempted assassination of President Trump on July 13.

"When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron's life, were on the brink of devastating change," she wrote in a statement following the assassination attempt. "I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans. Dawn is here again. Let us reunite. Now."
