DC Mayor Gives Classic Liberal Response When Asked About Illegal Immigrants Being Bused From Border To Washington

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said this week that illegal immigrants who are being bused from the Southern Border to the nation’s capital are being “tricked,” before urging the federal government to prevent it so migrants can reach their actual “final destinations” within the U.S.

Bowser was asked during an interview with CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday, about the stances of border state governors who say they’re being overrun with migrants, criminal activity, and drug cartels. Instead of providing further detail on her role in fixing the crisis, she pivoted to the plight of those who’ve crossed into the country illegally, focusing more on their needs than that of American citizens.

“This is a very significant issue, um, we have, for sure called on the federal government to work across state lines to prevent people from — really being tricked — into getting on buses,” she replied. “We think they’re largely asylum seekers, who are going to final destinations that are not Washington, D.C.”

The Democrat added, “I fear that they’re being tricked into nationwide bus trips when their final destinations are places all over the United States of America.”

She also claimed she worked with the White House to give out FEMA grants in an effort to assist such migrants and called for a “coordinated federal response” to the issue.

“Local taxpayers are not picking up the tab and should not pick up the tab,” she proclaimed.

The buses refer to action taken in April by Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX), who began sending busloads of migrants who’d been apprehended along the southern border, to Washington D.C.

In a statement announcing the arrival of the first group, Abbott stated, “the Biden Administration will be able to more immediately meet the needs of the people they are allowing to cross our border. Texas should not have to bear the burden of the Biden Administration’s failure to secure our border.”

Following the interview, Abbott’s spokeswoman Renae Eze told The Daily Mail: “’Border communities are overrun and overwhelmed, and Governor Abbott launched the border bus mission back in April to help provide support to these communities pleading for help where the Biden Administration is dumping migrants.”

She continued by emphasizing the impact Abbott hopes the program will have.

“With our nation’s capital now experiencing a fraction of the disaster created by President Biden’s reckless open border policies that our state faces every single day, maybe he’ll finally do his job and secure the border,” Eze’s statement read.

The influx of migrants into the nation’s capital comes as another surge is occurring along the U.S.-Mexican border, with over 207,000 migrant encounters occurring in the month of June alone.

With border communities feeling the consequences of Biden’s inept border policies, it seems like forcing the problem into the backyard of a Washington politician, is the only way to get them to listen.
