'It Is Unacceptable': Elise Stefanik SLAMS New York Democrats For Kicking Students Out Of Classrooms For Illegal Migrants

On Tuesday, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) slammed local officials in New York City after nearly 2,000 migrants were temporarily moved to be housed at the James Madison High School in Brooklyn after a migrant camp in Floyd Bennett Field was forced to evacuate following poor weather conditions.

According to a message sent to parents by the school district, students will be forced to move to remote learning on Wednesday as hundreds of migrants sleep in the school's gym. Mayor Eric Adams (D) reportedly made the move out of an abundance of caution in order to "make sure people are safe," as reported by Fox News.

In response to the move, Stefanik slammed local and state officials who are displacing New Yorkers for the sake of illegal migrants. "It is outrageous that Eric Adams and Kathy Hochul are displacing New York students to accommodate nearly 2,000 illegal immigrants at a local New York public high school, a direct result of Joe Biden and the Democrats failed Far Left sanctuary state policies which are destroying the great state of New York. This madness needs to end," Stefanik said. "New Yorkers' tax dollars are being used to house illegal immigrants, punishing and sending home New York students of James Madison High School," she said. "It is unacceptable that Far Left New York Democrats are once again putting the needs of illegal immigrants over our children."

Other New York officials also slammed the decision, with New York City Council Member Inna Vernikov (R) explaining in a statement, "This is both unacceptable and entirely foreseeable, as Floyd Benet Field is vulnerable to all forms of inclement weather conditions and is not a sustainable housing facility. This emergency was accurately predicted by critics of the Floyd Bennett field as a location to be used as a migrant shelter. Our public schools are meant to be places of learning and growth for our children and were never intended to be shelters or facilities for emergency housing."

Local residents were outraged by the decision, with one resident, who identified himself as Rob, telling The New York Post, "This is f*cked up. It's a litmus test. They are using a storm, a legitimate situation, where they are testing this out. I guarantee you they'll be here for the entire summer."

"There's 1,900 people getting thrown into my neighborhood, half a block from where I live, and we don't know who they are," he said. "They're not vetted. A lot of them have criminal records and backgrounds, and we don't even know."

Democrat leaders in The Empire State have decided to prioritize illegal migrants over the well-being of New Yorkers as they refuse to reverse the Sanctuary City policies that have led to this crisis. As the southern border continues to remain wide open, the impact on Democrat-led strongholds like The Big Apple will just be more exacerbated. New Yorkers shouldn't stand for this, and they should take action at the ballot box later this year in November.
