As the presidential campaign enters its final week, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance (R-OH) will travel to Austin, Texas, to record a three-hour podcast with Joe Rogan. This comes just days after 45th President Donald Trump sat down with the popular podcaster. Trump's podcast episode has received over 37 million views on YouTube.
Rogan's episode with President Trump last week received tens of millions of views within the first 24 hours of its publication, and an appearance by his running mate could bring similar numbers as the campaign attempts to reach a less politically active audience.
A recent survey of his listeners found that 81 percent are male, and a staggering 56 percent are between the ages of 18 and 34, with an additional 37 percent between the ages of 35 and 54. The poll also found that Rogan's audience is interested in athletics, history, entrepreneurship, and staying healthy.
As the Trump-Vance campaign attempts to court these voters in the final days of the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris has seemingly been unwilling to do the same despite attempts to appear on the popular podcast. Rogan explained on Tuesday that he turned down a proposal from the Harris campaign that would have forced him to travel and not hold the interview in his studio in Texas.
"Also, for the record the Harris campaign has not passed on doing the podcast," Rogan explained on X. "They offered a date for Tuesday, but I would have had to travel to her and they only wanted to do an hour. I strongly feel the best way to do it is in the studio in Austin. My sincere wish is to just have a nice conversation and get to know her as a human being. I really hope we can make it happen."
While the Trump campaign has made appearing on podcasts a priority for the campaign, the vice president's campaign has been willing to sidestep an opportunity to reach millions of voters out of fear that Harris would not perform well during a three-hour conversation on the most popular podcast in the world. While it may be wise for the Harris-Walz campaign to not take the risk to travel to Austin and record a lengthy discussion, they are leaving one of the biggest platforms in America off the table in an incredibly close election.
