Jennifer Aniston Takes A Stand Against Cancel Culture – 'Is There No Redemption?'

Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston took a hard stance against cancel culture, saying that she is “so over” it and that everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves.

“I probably just got canceled by saying that,” she said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine. “I just don’t understand what it means.… Is there no redemption? I don’t know. I don’t put everybody in the Harvey Weinstein basket.”

Aniston previously hinted at her dislike of cancel culture when she discussed how comedians now need to be more wary than ever when telling jokes. She had said that before, “You could joke about a bigot and have a laugh – that was hysterical,” but “now we’re not allowed to do that,” per Breitbart

During the interview, she had plenty to say about Weinstein. Many people have attempted to connect numerous actors with the disgraced Hollywood elite. Many have pointed out that someone working in Hollywood essentially had to work with him at some point.

“He’s not a guy, you’re like, ‘God, I can’t wait to hang out with Harvey.’ Never. You were actually like, ‘Oh, God, OK, suck it up,’” she said. “I remember actually, he came to visit me on a movie to pitch me a movie. And I do remember consciously having a person stay in my trailer.”

Weinstein and Aniston had some bad blood between them as, in 2017, the Hollywood producer said that “Jen Aniston should be killed” in an email, talking about false allegations that he had groped the ‘Friends’ star, per Variety. The email was found during the trial against Weinstein where he was eventually sentenced to 16 years in prison.

A representative for Aniston clarified that the “claims are false” and that the star “has not been harassed or assaulted by Harvey.” Nonetheless, both of them seem to not be too fond of one another.

Aniston joins a growing list of major celebrities that are coming out against cancel culture, including the likes of Dave Chapelle and Ricky Gervais. Major names in Hollywood need to be the most careful as numerous notable stars have had major shake-ups in their careers over controversies.

With another major name behind the demise of cancel culture, it gives all the more power to those who wish to restore a time when it was okay to say things that might offend people. Forcing comedy to go a safe route will inevitably lead to the very end of it and numerous other creative mediums.
