Jim Jordan Reveals What He’ll Be Tackling Next With Weaponization Committee, Calls For Defunding Federal Agencies

Influential GOP lawmaker Jim Jordan (R-OH) laid out in an interview with Breitbart News how Republicans intend to use the Select Subcommittee on Weaponization. The three objectives of that subcommittee, the Buckeye State Republican reveals, are to provide oversight to “get the fact on the table”, legislate remedies to the problems, and if needed cut off funding to malevolent agencies through the appropriations process.

He summarized this process of achieving the objectives by saying that one starts with the “facts so you can build the case for legislation then you can build the case for using the appropriations process to limit money going to these actions that are harmful.”

Mr. Jordan stated that the most pressing concern among the committee members was the broad and powerful assault on traditional and basic American liberties. He commented that the main focus of the committee reflected this concern.

Mr. Jordan said “There are three sort of, in my mind and in our committee members’ minds both the full committee and the select committee, [categories of weaponization topics being investigated]. The first is the First Amendment. This is the Twitter Files; it’s the DHS Disinformation Governance Board; it’s the attacks on the freedom of the press and freedom of speech—this connection between big government, Big Tech, NGOs all working together to suppress information and suppress speech and visibility filtering.”

In Mr. Jordan’s speech on the need for the Weaponization Subcommittee back in January, he echoed this concern over the systemic assault by the government on such liberties. He said in his floor speech that “[t]he five rights we enjoy as Americans under the First Amendment. Your right to practice your faith, your right to assemble, right to petition the government, freedom of the press, freedom of speech. Every single one’s been attacked in the last two years.”

Since January, Representative Jordan relayed that “We got a lot with Twitter files. We’re going to continue to get information from the agencies we think were involved and working with Big Tech to suppress First Amendment and free speech rights. We have what whistleblowers have told us relative to the Department of Justice and specifically the FBI.”

Mr. Jordan also noted with grave concern about how aspects of this weaponized censorship industry were being shipped to foreign soil as part of official American foreign policy. The censorship industry thus has taken on an international hue to it. The Republican committee member highlighted that “[t]he GEC [the State Department’s Global Engagement Center] is giving money to these NGOs and not-for-profit groups. That is a huge area: the free speech area, and we had a great hearing on that a week or two ago.”

Mr. Jordan later in the interview acknowledged that Republicans needed to seriously consider defunding such agencies and suggested that “we have to look across the board as a conference—not just on this stuff, but across the board as a conference—at things we are funding that make no sense. Where they infringe on First Amendment liberties, we certainly have to push to get that kind of limit on tax dollars being spent for those activities. I think of DHS. I think of the GEC at the State Department and all the people they were funding. When I read through all the Twitter Files, those really sort of stand out.”
