State of State addresses are generally only viewed by people in the state at which they are given, but Governor Jim Justice’s State of State was no normal address. After giving a speech on various topics he ended it by addressing an earlier offense to the state.

Back in December, Actress Bette Midler, posted a hysterical rant about West Virginia on Twitter after she found out that Joe Manchin had voted against Biden’s Build Back Better bill, causing it to fail in the Senate. She took to Twitter to say: “What Joe Manchin, who represents a population smaller than Brooklyn, has done for the rest of America, who wants to move forward not backward like his state is horrible. He sold us out. He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, Illiterate, and Strung Out.”

As one could imagine, the statement received plenty of backlash, which led to a public apology on Twitter, saying: “I apologize to the good people of WVA for my last outburst. I’m just seeing red; Joe Manchin and his whole family are a criminal enterprise. Is he really the best WV has to offer its own citizens?  Surely there’s someone there who has the state’s interests at heart, not his own!”  It’s safe to say this was only a half-hearted apology and one not well received by the governor of West Virginia! But the Governor had his own revenge coming.

After Jim Justice finished his state of the state address with this statement: “Now, Drew, if you can hand me Baby dog. I want to tell you all just this. And I mean this. I told you a few minutes ago, I am your proudest frog. Absolutely people doubted us. They never believed in West Virginia.  They never believed that the Nucors or the GreenPower or Owens & Minor, they never believed. They never believed they would be here.  They told every bad joke in the world about us.  And so from that standpoint, Babydog tells Bette Midler and all of those out there, kiss her hiney.”

It’s safe to say that West Virginia got their revenge on Bette Midler.
