John Bolton In Distress – Trump Indictment Is ‘Weaker Than I Feared’

Former Bush-Era Ambassador to the United Nations and avowed anti-Trump, neo-conservative John Bolton told CNN on Tuesday that he lamented the 34-count felony indictment of 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump and found it “distressing.” Bolton, who enjoyed a short stint as Trump’s National Security Advisor before a very public falling-out with the president, complained about the indictment’s weakness.

Clearly hoping for Trump to face more serious charges he said, “Speaking as someone who very strongly does not want Donald Trump to get the Republican presidential nomination, I’m extraordinarily distressed by this document,” according to The Washington Examiner.

“I think this is even weaker than I feared it would be.”

The indictment rests upon 34 instances of “falsification of Business records,” which Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg claims were committed to obscure other crimes… without actually specifying what those crimes are in the indictment.

Bolton has been an outspoken opponent of Trump since his departure from the president’s administration and even, somewhat laughably, teased a potential challenge against him in the 2024 primary.

‘I WOULD GET IN TO WIN THE NOMINATION:’ JOHN BOLTON ANNOUNCES A WHITE HOUSE RUN IN 2024

In December 2022 he told Meet The Press that he would run if it would prevent Trump from taking office again adding, “You can’t simply say, ‘I support the Constitution.’ You have to say, ‘I would oppose people who undercut it.’”

As reported by Newsweek, even at the outset of speculation, Christopher Devine, an assistant professor of political science at the University of Dayton noted the former diplomat doesn’t pose a realistic threat to Trump.

Devine explained that Bolton “has no base of support within the Republican Party, and has never run for elected office.”

He continued, “Even in a wide-open field, it would be very difficult for him to win the nomination. But with Donald Trump also running, as a former president who is still widely popular in the Republican Party, Bolton has little hope of coming in first.”

As Trump’s most ardent critics and political opponents bemoan the indictment for its weakness and ease of dismissal, it seems clear that in a fair hearing, it will pose little more than a public annoyance and a distraction from the critical 2024 Presidential race.

Disgraced former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe joined Bolton as well and noted to CNN,

“It’s disappointment. I think everyone was hoping we would see more about the direction that they intend to take this prosecution. What is the legal theory that ties that very solid misdemeanor case, 34 counts of misdemeanors, to the intent to conceal another crime, which is what makes it a felony?”

He seemed crestfallen when he added, “It simply isn’t there.”
