Josh Hawley Introduces Monumental Legislation to Allow States to Deport Illegal Immigrants

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), a prominent conservative champion, introduced groundbreaking legislation to protect the southern border earlier this week. The ‘Empowering States to Deport Illegal Immigrants Act’ would change federal law to allow the individual states to deport illegal immigrants.

“The Biden Administration’s extreme open border policies have had a devastating effect on the people of Missouri and the entire country. States have had limited ability to fight back during this period of record-breaking illegal border crossings,” Sen. Hawley explained.

“My bill would finally give states the ability to enforce federal immigration law and deport illegal immigrants. If Joe Biden won’t secure the border, then it’s time to give states the power to do it,” Sen. Hawley continued.

Although sending illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, like Gov. Ron DeSantis did is a bold move, the immigrants moved out of Florida still remain in the United States. This legislation would give strong Republican governors like Ron DeSantis (R-FL) the ability to actually deport individuals out of the country, instead of merely re-locate them.

The new bill also comes just days after Gov. Abbott (R-TX) signed an executive order that defines cartels crossing the border as terrorist organizations. The order was signed in the hopes of giving the great state of Texas more tools for handling the border crisis, according to DC Enquirer.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas, do hereby designate as foreign terrorist organizations the Sinaloa Cartel, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and any similarly situated Mexican drug cartels who may be identified in subsequent proclamations,” Gov. Abbott stated in the executive order.

While red states are doing their best to handle the crisis, Sen. Hawley’s bill would give them the power to take the reins. Hawley argues that this bill would make America safer, saying, “With a rise in illegal drug trafficking and a surge in illegal border crossings over the past year, this bill will help protect American families and communities,” the press releases stated.

While the likelihood of this bill going anywhere while Democrats maintain the majority in the House and Senate are slim, bills like this could become more popular if Republicans are victorious in taking back the majority. With the midterms just around the corner, the southern border is becoming a huge talking point, and strong legislation like this show voters the stark differences between the two parties.
