In a legal victory for forty-fifth President Donald Trump, U.S. District Judge Aileen, a Trump appointee, rejected the Justice Department’s request to restart its criminal investigation into classified documents seized from Trump’s Mar-A-Lago home.
Judge Cannon selected former veteran chief federal judge Judge Raymond Dearie to serve as a special master to review all of Trump’s materials seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Dearie was nominated by Ronald Reagan in 1986 and served as a top federal prosecutor in New York in the 1970s.
“The Court does not find it appropriate to accept the Government’s conclusions on these important and disputed issues without further review by a neutral third party in an expedited and orderly fashion,” Cannon ruled.
Cannon gave the special master a deadline of November 30 to finish his review of all documents.
“This investigation of the 45th President of the United States is both unprecedented and misguided. In what at its core is a document storage dispute that has spiraled out of control, the Government wrongfully seeks to criminalize the possession by the 45th President of his own Presidential and personal records,” Trump’s lawyers wrote in the filing.
“Dozens of amazing Patriots who stand for America, including wonderful young people, are being targeted and harassed by the Department of “Justice” and FBI. Is this payback for Liz Cheney being ANNIHILATED by 40 points and DESTROYING what was left of the Unselect Committee’s credibility?” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday.
“Our Country is being destroyed by the Radical Left Democrats—stock market crash, no southern border, rampant crime, military failure, and much more. Meanwhile, all they want to do is take vengeance on the 45th President, me, and those who support me. We will never back down. Make America Great Again,” Trump added.
“They leak, lie, plant fake evidence, allow the spying on my campaign, deceive the FISA Court, RAID and Break-Into my home, lose documents, and then they ask me, as the 45th President of the United States, to trust them. Look at the I.G. Reports on Comey, McCabe, and others. Things are safer in the middle of Central Park,” Trump wrote.
Over 30 FBI agents raided Trump’s 3,000-square-foot private quarters at Mar-A-Lago with some of them even snooping through Trump’s private office, his safe, and his wife Melania’s wardrobe.
