House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) tweeted Monday night that Department of Justice (DOJ) Attorney General Merrick Garland should prepare for Congressional hearings into his investigations of former President Donald Trump — specifically the recent raid on his Mar-a-Lago home.
“I’ve seen enough. The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization.” McCarthy began.
“When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned,” he promised.
“Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar,” the California Republican concluded.

Other prominent Republicans also demanded action following the raid, with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) claiming the Biden administration is not only going after Trump, but also everyday Americans.
“The FBI raiding Donald Trump is unprecedented. It is corrupt & an abuse of power. What Nixon tried to do, Biden has now implemented: The Biden Admin has fully weaponized DOJ & FBI to target their political enemies. And with 87K new IRS agents, they’re coming for YOU too,” Cruz wrote.
“Congress must demand answers. We need hearings; we need subpoenas. Dems in charge will refuse, but the American people deserve to know why Biden is using the FBI as his political enforcers. Tin-pot dictators do that, but that’s not how America works,” he continued.
“This same DOJ: ignored Hunter Biden (who filmed himself committing multiple felonies); ignored Hillary Clinton; largely ignored BLM/ANTIFA rioters; ignored dangerous protestors outside Justices’ homes; & ignored Jeffrey Epstein’s clients,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, other House Republicans are demanding answers including the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio).
Turner wrote a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, demanding answers and an immediate briefing on the raid.
“According to recent news reports, Members of Congress have learned that as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation you ordered a raid on former President Donald J. Trump’s personal residence,” the letter began.
“In the history of our country, this action is unprecedented. As the Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I am unaware of any actual or alleged national security threat posed by any information, data, or documents in the possession of former President Trump,” the Ohio congressman explained.
“Congress deserves immediate answers from you as to the actions you ordered,” he emphasized, adding, “I hereby request an immediate briefing by you to Members of the House Permanent Select committee on Intelligence concerning any national security threats used to justify your decision.”
With Republicans up in arms over the raid on the former president’s estate, Director Wray and Attorney General Garland have a lot of questions to answer about the investigations into Trump.
The American people deserve answers and ensuring transparency in these departments will provide that. If the FBI and DOJ fail to provide clear enough evidence to justify the raid, however, then the slim margin of trust Americans have in these departments will all but disappear — just in time for the November elections.
