A leaked poll from the Democrat-aligned pollster Open Labs revealed that President Biden's chances for re-election are slipping away after his disastrous debate performance last week. The poll, which compares Biden's standing both before and after the debate, shows Trump sweeping every single swing state and winning in traditionally Democrat-leaning states that a Republican hasn't won in decades.
The poll, obtained by the news site Puck, found that Trump enjoys a lead of 11 percent in North Carolina, 10 percent in Georgia, 10 percent in Arizona, nine percent in Nevada, seven percent in Pennsylvania, seven percent in Michigan, four percent in Wisconsin, three percent in New Hampshire, 0.6 percent in Virginia, and 0.5 percent in New Mexico.
The poll also found that other Democratic candidates could perform better than Biden in nearly every state. The Democrat pollster discovered that Biden isn't able to win a single swing state, including Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District. Other candidates, like Pete Buttigieg and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), were able to come out on top in some of the Rust Belt states.
In a hypothetical match-up, Pete Buttigieg slightly leads Trump by 0.6 percent in Michigan, 1.4 percent in Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District, and 2.2 percent in Wisconsin. However, he trails Trump in every other swing state. Vice President Kamala Harris, the most likely candidate to replace Biden at the top of the ticket, performed the worst in a race against Trump by failing to lead in any of the swing states. Gov. Gavin Newsom does even worse by only being able to maintain a lead over Trump in Wisconsin by 0.5 percent while trailing in the other states. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) would be the most viable candidate from those polled by beating Trump by 1.7 percent in Wisconsin, 1.4 percent in Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District, and 3.6 percent in Michigan.
While Democrats continue to call for President Biden to withdraw from the race and allow a more youthful candidate like Kamala Harris to take the reins, internal polling shows a disaster scenario for Biden and any other candidate who takes up the mantle. If President Biden were to drop out, an open convention in Chicago would have to be called, and Democrat delegates would choose the party's nominee. In such a scenario, party leaders would likely back Kamala Harris to lead the ticket, as Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) said on Tuesday. While Democrats continue to tear apart President Biden, the Trump campaign is sitting back as the competition destroys itself from within.
