Letitia James Vows To Seize Trump's Famous New York City Properties If He Fails To Pay $355 Million Fine

On Tuesday, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D-NY) explained that if Trump is unable or refuses to pay the $354.8 million fine against him following the ruling of Judge Arthur Engoron, then she would seize his assets in The Empire State which includes the 45th president's famous Trump Building on 40 Wall Street.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the judge ruled last week that Trump defrauded various banks to receive more beneficial loan terms. Engoron ordered Trump to pay a massive $354 million fine in addition to barring him "from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in New York for a period of three years." Trump is also responsible for paying around $100 million in pre-judgment interest.

Trump has vowed to appeal the ruling. However, he must first pay the fine in the form of a bond to the state. James, who ran her campaign around bringing charges against Trump in 2018, explained that if Trump is unable to come up with the funds, then she would seize his assets. "If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets," James told ABC News.

The New York AG explained that she is confident that she would win her case on appeal and that she is actively looking at seizing 40 Wall Street, a skyscraper owned by Trump in Manhattan's financial district. "We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I look at 40 Wall Street each and every day," she said.

Trump has repeatedly attempted to defend himself in the court of public opinion by explaining that there were no victims in the civil fraud case, given that the banks who gave him loans were paid back in full, on time, and with interest. James wasn't buying that argument, however, arguing that the victims were average New Yorkers. "Financial frauds are not victimless crimes. He engaged in this massive amount of fraud. It wasn't just a simple mistake, a slight oversight; the variations were wildly exaggerated, and the extent of the fraud was staggering. If average New Yorkers went into a bank and submitted false documents, the government would throw the book at them, and the same should be true for former presidents."

Left-wing prosecutors will stop at nothing to try to stop Donald Trump from winning back the White House in 2024, including going as far as trying to seize his most prized possessions in his home city of Manhattan. Trump shouldn't have a problem paying this fine, given his tremendous wealth, but James' threat shows the extent of her willingness to destroy the former president.
