On Monday, a mass shooting took place at Covenant Elementary School in Nashville, Tennessee leading to the murder of three nine-year-old children and three elderly staff members.
The shooting could have had graver consequences if it wasn’t for the bravery of two Nashville police officers who entered the school and killed the 28-year-old shooter.
The first call to 911 took place at 10:13 a.m. after the transgender shooter had shot down the doors of the school and entered the building.
Officers quickly rushed to the scene and were confronted by gunfire from two rifles and a handgun from a second-floor window, per a press release.
A group of officers entered the school to confront the suspect during her attack on police vehicles outside when two members of the officer team fired on the shooter and fatally wounded her.

“Those two officers are Officer Rex Engelbert, a four-year MNPD veteran, and Officer Michael Collazo, a nine-year MNPD veteran,” a press release noted.
“HEROES!” wrote the National Fraternal Order of Police on Twitter. “Nashville Police Officers Rex Englebert and Michael Collazo immediately stopped the monster who murdered three children and three adults in cold blood yesterday at the Covenant School. Thankful to all the heroes who responded!”
“Officers Michael Collazo and Rex Englebert are the heroes who ran toward gunfire to eliminate the Covenant School shooter,” wrote Robby Starbuck. “These men are the pride of Tennessee right now. Thank you Michael and Rex for your bravery and for saving lives yesterday!”
Had these men not acted in time, it is possible that the shooter could have done far more damage than what she had already accomplished. Luckily, their bravery shined through during this tragedy.
