'This Has Got To Hurt': Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Deemed Hollywood's Biggest Losers This Year

Last week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were considered some of the year's biggest Hollywood losers by The Hollywood Reporter after the duo's disastrous recent cancellation of their $20 million Spotify deal and their hilariously accurate portrayal by South Park.

The couple initially began their podcast after signing a multi-million dollar deal with Spotify in December 2020, but they only produced a dozen episodes over the two-and-a-half-year runtime of the show titled 'Archetypes.' The head of Spotify's podcast innovation and monetization department, Bills Simmons, explained that the duo's podcast should have been called "'The Fucking Grifters.' That's the podcast we shoulda launched with them. I gotta get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It's one of my best stories."

The Hollywood Reporter also makes a note of the widely successful yet embarrassing personal memoir Spare, which was released earlier this year alongside a Netflix docuseries titled Harry & Meghan. Both were widely mocked in the public eye. A recent poll from Newsweek reveals that the former Suits actress has a net approval rating of -2 while Harry only has a net approval of +12. On top of their disastrous public relations, the couple was also openly mocked by a South Park episode earlier this year entitled "World-Wide Privacy Tour," which featured the two traveling the world demanding privacy despite showing up on various television shows.

"In 2020, the royal duo fled a life of ceremonial public service to cash in their celebrity status in the States," The Hollywood Reporter wrote. "But after a whiny Netflix documentary, a whiny biography (Spare — even the title is a pouty gripe), and an inert podcast, the Harry and Meghan brand swelled into a sanctimonious bubble just begging to be popped — and South Park was the pin," the outlet wrote. "The show's 20-minute 'World-Wide Privacy Tour' takedown in March was savage and was followed by Spotify dropping Archetypes, with a top executive labeling the duo' grifters.' Still, all the scorn and mockery beats otherwise having to attend 200-plus official royal family engagements a year, which sounds hellish."

The lackluster year for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has significantly hurt their reputation, and their inclusion on the list will surely be a blow to their egos. "The Hollywood Reporter [is] basically the bible in this city," Royal observer Kinsey Schofield said, per Breitbart. "This has got to hurt Harry and Meghan personally, and it's got to have William Morris Endeavor (WME)- her current talent agency – scrambling to figure out what their next steps are."
