Democrat Candidate Gets $1 Million Donation From Liberal Mega Donor To Flip Red State

Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke (D) received a $1 million donation from liberal mega-donor George Soros in an effort to help turn the state blue, according to the Texas Ethics Commission.

The donation was made on June 23, just one day before Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court, per The Hill.

Following the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Texas’ trigger law went into effect, virtually ending all abortions in the state.

In response to the Supreme Court’s decision, Soros tweeted about how it was a hit to human rights.

“The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn #RoeVWade ends federal protections for abortion, diminishes human rights, and greatly threatens reproductive care,” he wrote. “We have invested in reproductive rights organizations that are fighting back at this moment.”

Soros, 91, has reportedly backed progressive district attorneys across the country, funding their election campaigns which then morph into left-wing policies — like abolishing bail and defunding the police. He also made headlines for his involvement in the “Secretary of State Project” which used a similar model to elect statewide officials, who could make final calls in close elections races.

Soros’ donation is just part of the $27.6 million raised thus far by the Beto campaign. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) who is seeking a third term, however, has $55 million at his disposal for reelection, according to The Texas Tribune.

Given the vast difference in money raised between the two candidates, it’s no wonder why recent polling — summarized by FiveThirtyEight — shows Abbott up 49.5 percent to O’Rourke’s 41.7 percent. Nearly eight points.

The former failed presidential and Senate candidate wants citizenship for illegal migrants and famously said “Hell yes, we are going to take your AR-15s.” He’s also openly advocated for the radical Green New Deal, per CNBC.

With policies like this, Texans, who haven’t elected a Democrat to state office since 1996 — are unlikely to elect O’Rourke in November. Especially when out-of-state mega-donors like Soros are the ones backing his fledgling campaign. The third time is not the charm.
