Migrants Who Allegedly Beat NYPD Officers Arrested Over 2,000 Miles Away From NYC

On Monday evening, several of the illegal migrants who were accused of beating two NYPD officers last weekend were arrested over 2,000 miles away from the Big Apple in Phoenix, Arizona. The men were apprehended by officers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a Greyhound bus station.

The migrants arrested by the federal authorities have yet to be identified, but it is likely that those taken into custody include the four men who fled from New York to head to California following their arrest and subsequent release without bail, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer. The illegal migrants who fled the Empire State include 19-year-old Darwin Andres Gomez, 19-year-old Kelvin Servita Arocha, 21-year-old Wilson Juarez, and 24-year-old Yorman Reveron.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, several migrants, including Boada, mercilessly beat two NYPD officers to the ground near Times Square on Saturday evening. Following the incident, the migrants were arrested and then released, without bail, back onto the streets of Manhattan.

Footage of the attack, which took place around 6:30 PM on Saturday on West 42nd Street, shows the NYPD officers asking the migrants to move before they were attacked. The two police officers were quickly surrounded by half a dozen attackers, leading to one officer being taken to the ground and repeatedly kicked in the chest and head. All the while, another officer defended his colleague from the onslaught, attempting to take down one of the attackers and support the downed officer.

While the officers were unsuccessful in apprehending any of the attackers in the initial assault, the NYPD would later apprehend the suspects, who were identified as 19-year-old Darwin Andres Gomez Izquiel, 19-year-old Kelvin Servat Arocha, 21-year-old Juarez Wilson, and 24-year-old Yorman Reveron. All of the men were in the United States via asylum.

One of the attackers, Yorman Reveron, currently has two open cases, one for assault and another for robbery, yet he still has been allowed to remain on the streets of the Big Apple. In November, he allegedly attacked a Nordstrom Rack employee after being caught shoplifting, and last month, he punched a Macy's security guard after being caught during a robbery with two others.

The men were taken into custody and charged with assault. However, all of them were released without bail. A fifth suspect, 22-year-old Jhoan Boada, was later arrested on Monday evening and was charged with attempted assault of a police officer. The officers involved received medical attention at the scene and only suffered minor injuries, such as small cuts and bruises.

NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell told reporters on Wednesday that the migrants were "cowards" and that they carried out these acts of violence because "there are no consequences" for criminal behavior in the city. "You saw the video. Reprehensible. Cowards." Chell told reporters. "You have eight people attacking a lieutenant and a cop. Running up to them and trying to kick them in the face. Four were arrested on the scene. One was arrested last night. The four that were arrested should be sitting in Rikers right now, on bail. They should be indicted this week and taken off our streets. Do you want to know why our cops are getting assaulted? There are no consequences. We must change this. End of story."

As reported by Fox News, Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) told reporters on Friday that she would be questioning why Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) released the men without bail. "Certainly, an assault on a police officer is bail-eligible," she said. "There are over 100 crimes that also can lead to deportation, and so that is also something I want to have a conversation with the district attorney about – his options here."
