On Friday, Tucker Carlson started his third interview with former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN) during the FAMiLY Leadership Summit.
The summit, which can be viewed here, will be hosting multiple GOP presidential candidates including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC), Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN), Vivek Ramaswamy, and other candidates. Tucker Carlson will be interviewing each of them.
Tucker Carlson opened up the interview by asking the vice president about January 6th, asking Pence whether he thought it was an insurrection. Pence explained that he has never used that word and that it was a "day of tragedy."
He also explained that he did his duty to the Constitution on that day and that the shooting of Ashli Babbitt was a "tragic moment."
He went on to explain that the rioters should be held accountable for their actions on that day, but also the Black Lives Matter rioters should be held to the same standard as those who participated in the Capitol Riot.
Pence then went on to explain that the January 6th Select Committee was blatantly partisan and that they failed to address the security failures that took place on that day.
Carlson went on to push Pence on what he thinks the January 6th rioters' motivations were, suggesting that the integrity of elections should be confronted.
Pence explained that multiple states changed election laws during the Covid-19 pandemic thus leading to much more relaxed laws for millions of voters.
The former vice president then argued that President Trump's words on January 6th were reckless and put him and his family in danger.
Carlson went on to suggest that electronic voting machines should be removed from across the country in order to instill confidence back into the integrity of the vote. Pence explained that states control the administration of elections and that he had no right to attempt to overturn the 2020 election on January 6th.
The former Fox host then questioned why Republican-led states have not switched back to paper ballots to which Pence said that the federal government can encourage reforms and provide resources for states to assist in that mission.
Tucker moved on to question Pence about his recent visit to President Zelensky in Ukraine and how free Christians are in the country. Pence explained that the Zelensky government has been respectful of religious liberty. Pence went on to explain that he would not stand for any infringements on religious liberty.
The conversation then turned to his position on Ukraine where the vice president emphasized his support for arming Ukraine in its fight against Russia. He explained that if Putin were to overrun Ukraine, then the Russian military would cross the border of a NATO country thus forcing America into the fight.
Pence then explained that he would only allow Ukraine to enter NATO at the end of the war. He went on to explain that arming Ukraine would send a message to China to not invade Taiwan thanks to American support.
Carlson, however, argued that the country is actually in a worse position because of the lack of ammunition. Pence stated that due to this, the military needs to be rebuilt. "The answer is to now shrink from America's role in the world," Pence said.
Carlson went on to argue that while Pence is calling for more weapons to go to Ukraine, American cities are getting worse. "I think it's a fair question to ask, where is the concern for the United States in that," Carlson asked.
Pence dodged the question and gave a plethora of platitudes, however, he did say that America can lead the world while fixing problems domestically.
