Mitch McConnell Pushes Against Fellow Republicans, Calls NOT To Impeach Joe Biden Over Corruption

In an interview on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) revealed that he has been urging his fellow Republicans in Congress to not pursue impeachment against corrupt President Joe Biden, claiming that it would be bad for the nation. 

Numerous Republicans in the House of Representatives have been pushing forth a plan to hold the aging president accountable for the numerous alleged foreign bribery deals. Both Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently discussed their plans for impeachment, per the DC Enquirer. Donalds and Greene are far from the only GOP members calling for an impeachment of the president, with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) frequently pushing for the Biden family to come clean and threatening an impeachment inquiry.

McConnell does not seem to share the sentiments with a New York Times article quoting him asking for quite the opposite. 

“I said two years ago, when we had not one but two impeachments, that once we go down this path it incentivizes the other side to do the same thing,” the Senate minority leader said. “Impeachment ought to be rare. This is not good for the country.” 

The comments from McConnell only push to further alienate him from other Republicans serving in Congress, something that has seemingly happened quite frequently as of late. The longtime GOP leader has been met with hecklers calling for him to retire due to his old age, per the DC Enquirer. 

Even 45th President Donald Trump joined in on the anti-McConnell sentiments, taking to his Truth Social to share a clip of the aging senator being booed alongside the caption “I AGREE! ‘BOOOOO–RETIRE, RETIRE, RETIRE–BOOOOO!!!’”

Additionally, in late July, the longtime Republican seemed to have a health scare while speaking to reporters at Capitol Hill, suddenly freezing out of nowhere, per the DC Enquirer. His fellow colleagues quickly escorted him away from the press, seemingly also confused by the sudden and abrupt stop in his press address. McConnell returned shortly after, claiming that he was “fine.”

Tides are certainly turning against the 81-year-old with more and more of the younger generations in Congress pushing against what the once-influential politician has to say. While his concerns of impeachment may come from a good place, ultimately deciding not to impeach a blatantly corrupt president because “it incentivizes the other side to do the same thing” is just as, if not more dangerous, than failing to hold Biden accountable for his numerous injustices.
