Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fell on Wednesday evening while out at a dinner at the Waldorf Astoria hotel leading to the 81-year-old being hospitalized. On Thursday, McConnell’s staff gave an update about his health.
“Leader McConnell tripped at a dinner event Wednesday evening and has been admitted to the hospital and is being treated for a concussion. He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days,” said McConnell’s Communication Director David Popp, as reported by The Daily Wire. “The Leader is grateful to the medical professionals for their care and to his colleagues for their warm wishes.”
On Wednesday evening, a McConnell spokesperson stated that the minority leader “tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.”
Republican lawmakers close to McConnell said that they were not aware of the condition that the Republican leader was in with key McConnell ally Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) saying, “I understand that he’s resting up, but I don’t have any details,” per The Hill.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wished his friend well on the Senate floor on Thursday morning saying, “My thoughts this morning are with my good friend Leader Mitch McConnell, who is recovering in the hospital after an accident last night,” he said. “This morning I offer a prayer of strength and healing for the leader and his family. I called the leader this morning and spoke briefly with his staff to extend my prayers and well wishes.”
McConnell’s hospitalization comes after multiple other senators have been taken to the hospital including Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA).

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) was checked into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for clinical depression last month.
“Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression,” said Fetterman’s Chief of Staff Adam Jentleson. “While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks.”
“On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress,” he continued. “Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis.”
“After examining John, the doctors at Walter Reed told us that John is getting the care he needs, and will soon be back to himself,” the chief of staff added.
Sen. Fetterman has yet to leave the hospital. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, on the other hand, was released from the hospital this week after being treated for shingles, as reported by The Hill.
Once again the hospitalization of these senior lawmakers showcases just how old America’s ruling class is. The country has been ruled by the Baby Boomer generation for decades. Perhaps it is time for a change to more youthful leadership.
