‘Money Back In The Pockets’: Red State Gov Extends Gas Tax Suspension Over Cost ‘Emergency’

Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp extended a suspension of the state’s gas tax for another 30 days on Friday, an executive order from his office showed.

Kemp suspended Georgia’s 31.2 cents-per-gallon tax on gasoline and 35 cents-per-gallon tax on diesel in September after declaring a state of emergency over high inflation in the state. The new executive order extends the state of emergency until Nov. 11, according to its text.

“We’re taking action at the state level to deliver relief to hardworking Georgians fighting through Bidenflation, soaring interest rates, and sky-high prices due to Bidenomics,” Kemp said in a press release. “Our state’s average gas price is now roughly 40 cents less than it was last month. With our partners in the General Assembly, we’ll keep working to put money back in the pockets of Georgia families.”

Georgia’s average price-per-gallon remains one of the lowest in the nation and currently hovers around $3.18, according to the press release.

“Governor Kemp’s proactive leadership is protecting our economy and providing relief to hardworking Georgians and their families,” Republican state House Speaker Jon Burns wrote in the press release. “While Washington does nothing, Georgia will continue to protect residents and visitors alike from crippling pain at the pump.’’

The governor’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
