Republican Sen. Deb Fischer has a narrow lead in the Nebraska Senate race against independent opponent Dan Osborn with just eight days left until the election, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday.
Fischer is leading by two percentage points at 48% percent to Osborn’s 46%, according to the poll. Among likely voters surveyed in Nebraska, 5% either refused to answer or said that they were undecided voters, according to the poll.
Former President Donald Trump is leading in Nebraska by 15 percentage points at 55%, while Vice President Kamala Harris trails behind at 40%, according to the poll. Harris is leading among the state’s independent voters by 10 percentage points, according to the poll results.
“This race is neck-and-neck, but make no mistake, the momentum is on our side,” Osborn said in a statement shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Deb Fischer has spent 12 years doing the bidding of her corporate donors while leaving hardworking Nebraskans behind, and in 8 days, Nebraskans will come together to fire her and her self-serving agenda once and for all.”
Democrats have led a push to flip the Senate seats in various red states, including Nebraska, Texas and Florida. Several far-left dark money groups have helped to fund Osborn’s senate campaign.
The Nebraska Supreme Court ruled on Oct. 16 to accept voter registration applications from some former felons for the 2024 presidential election. Republican Nebraska State Sen. Mike McDonnell announced on Sept. 23 that he opposed changing how the state allocates its electoral college votes.
Nebraska’s Senate race is not the only race that has candidates neck-and-neck, with national polling averages for Harris and Trump remaining tight as the presidential race enters its final stretch. Trump is leading nationally by 0.1 points at 48.5% while Harris remains narrowly behind at 48.4%, according to polling averages from RealClear Polling.
Fischer’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.
