The Jersey shore town of Ocean Grove, historically known for emphasizing the Christian faith that founded and defined the community for decades, rebuilt its enormous boardwalk in the shape of a cross.
As reported by Fox News, the oceanfront pier was wiped out by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and was subsequently redesigned and is set to make its grand debut on April 15th.
“The more we thought about it [and] prayed about it, [the more] the inspiration came for the present design,” Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association president Michael Badger said. Badger when interviewed by Fox News.
“We’re always going to be welcoming and seeking for people to be engaged by the gospel – and that’s what we have to offer.”
Initially the plan called for adding “more ends” to the previous pier design and that eventually evolved into the shape of the cross according to Badger.
“It’s functional,” he continued. “But it became obvious to us that it is in the shape of a cross — and how fitting it is for our Christian mission.”
He continued, “So this is just a culminating of a design process that sought to create an optimal pier — and we do see the blessing of God’s hand in this.”
