Biden continues to fall behind, as a new survey taken last week shows that most Democrats don’t want the current president to run again.
The survey, polled by ABC News, showed that only half of Democrats want the current president to be nominated, with 47 percent leaning on both sides. However, among Democratic-leaning adults, only 36 percent want Biden to be nominated, with 58 percent against the idea. It gets even worse among independents who lean towards the Democrats, with only a measly 17 percent supporting the nomination of Biden, and a whopping 77 percent wanting it to be another candidate.
Things only continue to get worse once he begins to be compared to ex-president Donald Trump. When asked about which president did a better job of handling the economy, 54 percent were in favor of Trump while only 36 percent found Biden to do better.
When it comes to the topic of mental capability, many have raised concerns about Biden. With Biden being 82 at the beginning of his potential second term, and finishing it at 86, there’s no wonder why many find it concerning.
Biden lost much of the American people's faith, with 63 percent of Americans believing that the current president does not have enough mental sharpness to serve as president, up from the 43 percent reported in 2020 and 54 percent last year. When it comes to physical capabilities, 33 percent find Biden to be capable enough for the role, matching the citizens who believe in his mental ability. Trump in comparison currently has 54 percent believing he is mentally sharp enough to serve as president, and 64 percent find Trump to be physically fit enough to be Commander-in-Chief. It’s clear when it comes to mental and physical capacity, the public far favors Trump in comparison to Biden.
The one place where Biden can edge Trump out is in America's beliefs of their honesty and trustworthiness. 41 percent of Americans find Biden honest and trustworthy, while only 33 percent find Trump to be honest and trustworthy.
The most damning poll comes in the 2024 general election matchups polling. Trump can beat out Biden, with 36 percent saying they would “Definitely vote for Republican” if it was Donald Trump and only 32 percent saying they would “Definitely vote for Biden.” When it comes to the likely voters, Trump still beats out Biden with nine percent compared to Biden’s six percent.
Biden also doesn’t fare well against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a hypothetical matchup. Both men match evenly in the number of definite voters, but DeSantis edges out Biden with ten percent of probable voters compared to Biden’s five percent.
Biden’s odds aren’t looking the best for the coming 2024 election, and if the Democratic want any chance of holding on to the presidency, they may need to look into nominating a different candidate.
