NYC Mayor Eric Adams Says City Is 'Out Of Room, Literally' As Thousands Take Advantage Of The Big Apple's Sanctuary City Status

On Tuesday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) revealed that the Big Apple is literally "out of room" as tens of thousands of migrants pour into the city after crossing the wide-open southern border. In an interview with FOX5's 'Good Day New York,' Mayor Adams revealed that the city is seeing anywhere from 2,500 to 4,000 migrants a week coming to the city.

"We're not just saying we're out of room as a sound bite — we're out of room, literally. People are going to be eventually sleeping on the streets," Adams said about the worsening situation for migrants on the streets of Manhattan. While Adams recognizes that the issue is getting increasingly out of hand, he has refused to attempt to revoke NYC's sanctuary city status that would allow him to turn away illegal migrants. "I don't have the authorization to tell people they can't come into New York City," he told interviewer Rosanna Scotto, as reported by Breitbart

"But everybody keeps talking about sanctuary city, that we're not using it the way that it was originally intended," Scotto said, in response to which Adams responded, "And I agree. We cannot by law tell someone if they come into the city, you can't come into the city. We can't even turn them over to ICE. The law states that we cannot notify ICE. I cannot break the law and enforce the law."

When pressed as to why the Democrat-run city continues to give away free hotel rooms and various other benefits to the thousands of migrants coming into the city, Adams shifted focus and blamed the federal government's lack of assistance. "We have never witnessed this level of migration in this hemisphere. Europe was dealing with this. But with the destabilization of Venezuela, we've never witnessed before, 7.5 million people in this hemisphere, so we are being inundated, and we have now moved into another phase of saying, all of those services that you're talking, that we are going to... we're down to food, shelter, clothing, that's it because this is a national problem," he said. "It's unfair for local municipalities and cities to handle this problem."

While Adams is attempting to shift blame to the Biden administration's lack of action, he was more blunt about the stain that illegal immigration is having on the city last year when he went on a lengthy rant at a town hall. He said that the influx of migrants into the Big Apple is going to "destroy New York City" and lead to massive budget cuts, which has already come to fruition with cuts to police and education.

"Let me tell you something, New Yorkers. Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don't see an ending to this. I don't see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City. We're getting 10,000 migrants a month," Adams said. "One time, we were just getting Venezuela. Now we're getting Ecuador. Now we're getting Russian-speaking coming through Mexico. Now, we are getting Western Africa. Now, we're getting people from all over the globe who made their minds up. They're gonna through the southern part of the border and come into New York City. And everyone is saying it's New York City's problem. Every community in this city is going to be impacted."

"We had a $12 billion deficit that we're going to have to cut. Every service in this city is going to be impacted. All of us," Adams said. "It's going to come to your neighborhoods. All of us are going to be impacted by this. I said it last year when we had 15,000. I'm telling you now with 110,000. The city we knew we're about to lose. And we're all in this together."
