Oliver Anthony's 'Rich Men North Of Richmond' Has Record Breaking Debut On Billboard Hot 100

Oliver Anthony's breakout hit song 'Rich Men North of Richmond' has broken records after debuting on Billboard Hot 100 earlier this week. The blue-collar anthem, which has been listened to by tens of millions of Americans, became the first song in the chart's history to debut in the coveted number-one slot without previous history on the chart.

Anthony is also one of only six other artists who have debuted a solo single that has been able to reach the top spot on the Hot 100 with Zayn, Baauer, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia, and Clay Aiken also holding that title.

“The hopelessness and frustration of our times resonate in the response to this song," the singer told Billboard. "The song itself is not anything special, but the people who have supported it are incredible and deserve to be heard.”

In addition, 'Rich Men North of Richmond' hit number one on the Apple Music Top 100: Global chart to beat out artists like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Travis Scott, and Billie Eilish for the coveted spot.

As reported by Billboard, the song drew 17.5 million streams and sold 147,000 downloads as of August 17th. In addition, the song has generated 553,000 radio airplay audience impressions.

The song has struck a chord with millions of working-class Americans thanks to the raw emotion underlying the singer's lyrics and his ability to highlight the changing economic landscape in America.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the singer is estimated to be bringing in around $40,000 a day as he continues to dominate the charts. Despite his tremendous success, he has refused to take large contracts from the music industry with the country sensation informing fans that he turned down an $8 million contract earlier this month.

On Tuesday evening, the country star released his newest song 'I Want To Go Home' which has already garnered over a million views on YouTube. Attached to the video was a comment from Anthony that read, "Im super appreciative of everyone. Just to be clear, I am Piedmont born and raised, not Appalachia. I don't deserve any credit for Appalachian music, there are many gifted folks doing their thing further west of me. Love y'all."
