House Speaker Nancy Pelosi surprised us all on Thursday by calling for the American athletes traveling to the 2022 Winter Olympics to “stay silent” over China’s flagrant human rights abuses. China has a well-documented history of human rights violations, extending back to the inception of communism in that country. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), headed by Xi Jinping, has continued China’s record of genocidal abuse — including a well-documented program against the Uyghur Muslim people group. China’s treatment of the Uyghurs has been noteworthy both for its sheer scope and extremity. Over one million Uyghurs have been placed in internment camps, with “treatments” including reeducation and forced sterilization. The CCP’s record speaks for itself, and it is no wonder many were calling for the US to altogether pull itself from the Winter Olympic Games, hosted in Beijing. The US announced it will have no diplomatic presence in Beijing. Nonetheless, American athletes will still compete in the games themselves.

Enter Nancy Pelosi. Yesterday, Nancy Pelosi offered her thoughts on American involvement in the Olympic games. After praising our athletes, Pelosi said something truly baffling. Here is a transcript:

” I would say to our athletes, you’re there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government because they are ruthless. I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there. I respect that, but I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families. “

Wow, she really just told American athletes to keep their political opinions to themselves in a moment of crisis. Even a host on the Hyper-Liberal ‘The View’ realized the indefensible nature of Pelosi’s claim. Host Ana Navarro admits:

“That’s so un-American. That’s so un-American. What China has done to the Uyghurs is something that should be protested, and if there’s any athlete who wants to have the courage to do that, and I understand this is about athleticism, but it’s also a huge worldwide platform. The ones I’m angry at is the International Olympic Committee, who keep looking and hosting things at places like Sochi. Look, if we know that China has committed genocide and has imprisoned over one million Uyghurs, why are they being allowed to host an Olympic games, which is a huge honor for any country?”

For once, a co-host of ‘The View’ got things absolutely correct. She got pushback, but it was largely ineffective. Here is the full video of Ana Navarro’s comments:
