Mike Pence Does Damage Control As He Has Yet To Qualify For The Debate Stage

Despite having numerous recent blunders on the campaign trail, Mike Pence (R-IN) still somehow believes that he will make the Republican debate stage, sharing on Tuesday that he has reached 30,000 individual donors and is “very confident” he and his team will make it.

Pence has had numerous major road bu-000000000000000000000mps in his 2024 campaign. He previously made a major blunder when talking with Tucker Carlson, pushing the war in Ukraine, per the DC Enquirer. Just recently, rather than discussing how the Biden administration is working to interfere with an election by indicting former President Donald Trump numerous times, Pence attacked his once running mate, saying someone like him “should never be President of the United States,” per the DC Enquirer

Despite the repeated blunders that have angered those within his own party, he still feels good about making it to the Republican debates. Breitbart News listened in to a Thursday call with donors where Pence said “I was asked by the press today whether I’d make the debate stage, and I said, ‘By our lights, we think maybe the next seven to 10 days, we’ll lock it down.’”

His campaign manager, Steve DeMaura, who isn’t doing a very good job so far, also shares this confidence with Pence. He made the bold declaration that not only will the former vice president qualify for the August debate but he will also qualify for the September debate. He also attempted to justify the so far lackluster results but noted how Pence only launched in June, giving him less time to reach the 40,000 donors threshold than other competitors.

DeMaura claimed that the campaign saw its “first 2000 individual donor day” during late July and has since “been averaging more than 1000 new donors every single day since.” He highlighted the connection that Pence has of “grassroots donors” that donate through mail, saying that those who donate online will only make up a “smaller percentage of [their] overall donor base.”

Pence announced that he had made it to 30,000 individual donors, three-quarters of the way to the goal of 40,000 unique donors. While his progress may sound good, the debate is only three weeks away giving Pence an extremely tight deadline to make the goal. With all the recent and justified negative press surrounding Pence, his chances don’t seem all that high. Considering that Perry Johnson (R-MI), an absolute no-name in the race, also recently announced that he made it to 30,000 donors - it doesn't seem like a big accomplishment.

Ultimately, if the claims that were made by Pence and DeMaura are true, there's a possibility that he could make it to the stage. But considering the continuous recent negative news about the candidate, it seems quite unlikely that such an event can or should occur. Pence has proven that he is simply an establishment Republican and has no interest in fighting against the corruption that exists on both sides. His appearance at the debates will make no difference in the election.
