Are You Proud To Be An American? New Poll Reveals Patriotism Sitting Near All-Time Low Ahead Of The Fourth Of July

A recent poll has revealed that American pride has been sitting at a near all-time low with just under 4 in 10 Americans saying they are “extremely proud” to be an American citizen.

Last year saw an all-time low for American patriotism with only 38 percent of respondents to a Gallup poll saying that they are “extremely proud” to be an American. Things have seen a mild increase of one percent, now sitting at 39 percent, but still leaving an extremely disappointing overall answer.

Things are slightly better when including both “extremely” and “very proud,” boosting that amount up to 67 percent, up from last year's 65 percent. Another 22 percent stated that they are “moderately proud” of being an American, seven percent said they are “only a little proud,” and a saddening four percent said they are “not at all” proud to be American.

Gallup has been conducting these polls since 2001, where almost immediately the polls peaked due to the intense patriotism that followed 9/11. Since then, those who are proud of the country have slowly been trending downward, seeing the biggest drop from 2004 to 2005 at an eight percent drop, and between 2021 and 2022 at a five percent drop.

The poll also noted party lines, showing that Republicans are significantly more patriotic than Democrats and Independents. This year, 60 percent of Republicans said they are “extremely proud” to be Americans with only 33 percent of Independents and 29 percent of Democrats saying the same, showing exactly how the overall percentage has been able to get so low.

Age also seems to play a notable factor, with younger groups tending to give less patriotism than older groups. The largest demographic to answer that they are “extremely proud” is 55 and older Republicans, with 68 percent saying so. In contrast, the lowest polling demographic was 18 to 34-year-old Democrats with only 12 percent saying they are “extremely proud” of their nationality.

As Gallup noted, America is currently seeing the percentage of extremely proud citizens sitting near a record-low number and it’s concerning. The same people who are saying that they aren’t proud of their nationality or the country they live in are the same people pushing radical ideas to change the country.

Things in America may not be perfect, but that never means that one should be ashamed of being a citizen of the greatest country to ever exist. Regardless of what the polls say, we here at the DC Enquirer are proud to write about America and everything that happens within it.
