President Biden Is Sending Troops To The Southern Border But There Is A Major Catch

Finally, after years of mounting pressure about America’s southern open border, President Joe Biden has elected to temporarily send in the military, according to Just the News. However, this act rings as a political one rather than a practical one. Mark Morgan, the former acting U.S. Customs and Border Protection chief under Obama, pointed out that “They're not being sent there to secure the border. They're simply being [sent] down there to facilitate the catch and release of those illegally entering and filing fraudulent claims.”

Mr. Morgan complained that “The action they're taking is not substantive” and stated, “It's all about politics.” He further called this out by saying “Let's make no mistake: This is all smoke and mirrors. Nothing's going to change. They're not doing anything with respect to an effective strategy of deterrence and consequences and put[ting] integrity back in the system. It's just the opposite. It's more of the same.”

The former chief elaborated that “They [the Biden administration] know the numbers [of illegal border crossings] are going to increase [with the expiration of Title 42 that allowed the deportation of border crossers for public health reasons relating to COVID-19], so they know they need more resources there to help process and release illegal aliens as fast as humanly possible.” Mr. Morgan added, “that's exactly what's going on right now.”

Republicans appeared to be alive to the political game that is being played by the Biden administration. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) wrote on Twitter that “Sending 1500 troops to the border a week before Title 42 ends will not solve the crisis. The Biden administration needs to secure our border.”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) also called out the president's action, writing, “President Biden's open-border policy is a national security & humanitarian crisis” and mentioned that Representatives Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Tom McClintock (R-CA) had “introduced HR 2, the Secure the Border Act, which would restore sanity, safety, & security at our borders.” The Speaker vowed that “House Republicans will take action to secure our borders and restore the rule of law—this is our commitment to America.”

The 213-page Secure the Border Act of 2023 calls, among other things, for an “immediate resumption of border wall construction” on the southern border and a plan to be drawn up by the administration for the implementation of securing the border.

Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) described his bill as “a border security and immigration reform package that will provide real, thoughtful solutions to restore order at the Southwest border, enhance our national security, and most importantly, protect unaccompanied minors– something that the Administration has refused to acknowledge and failed to act upon.”
