'Do The Right Thing!': President Trump Offers CNN's Dana Bash Advice On How To 'Achieve Greatness' With Harris-Walz Interview

On Thursday, 45th President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to give pointers to CNN anchor Dana Bash ahead of her joint interview with Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) at 9 PM EST. The interview, which will be pre-recorded in Georgia, is the vice president's first sit-down with the media since taking over the top of the ticket after President Joe Biden stepped down over a month ago.

"Dana Bash of CNN has a chance at greatness today. If she gave a fair but tough interview of Comrade Kamala Harris, she will expose her as being totally inept and ill suited for the job of President, much as I exposed Crooked Joe Biden during our now famous Debate. How cool would that be for Dana and CNN???" Trump wrote on Truth Social, referencing the infamous June 28 debate between himself and Biden that was moderated by CNN's Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.

"Also, the interview should not have Tampon Tim present to help with the inevitable Kamala stumbles, and under no circumstances should the transcript be allowed to be changed in any way, shape, or form. Dana and Jake were fair, but firm, in my CNN Debate with Crooked Joe," he continued. "This is a chance for Dana Bash to reach REAL stardom, while at the same time doing a great service to our now failing Country. Good luck, Dana, do the right thing!!!"

Team Trump has made it well known that Harris's decision to do a joint, pre-recorded interview with a friendly outlet isn't enough to satisfy American voters demanding answers about her various policy positions. During an interview earlier this week, Trump reiterated this point to The Daily Mail. "Why isn't it live? It's an interview that's going to be taped, edited, and then put out. That's not even an interview. And then she's doing it with her vice president sitting there. So she's not very smart. When they ask her a question she can't answer, she's just going to look at him," Trump said. "I can't imagine. Everyone's waiting for her to do an interview because she's been a big failure in interviews, as you know."

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Harris's campaign advisors asked journalists in recent days about who she should be interviewed by as several networks lobbied the campaign to be the first to get the exclusive interview with Harris after her unprecedented rise to become the party's nominee. While Harris set a strict deadline to get an interview "scheduled" before the end of the month, her campaign aides were debating the best path forward for a vice president who is prone to awkward moments in unscripted environments. The announcement on Tuesday solidified that the campaign thought CNN would be the most receptive outlet to shield Harris from an embarrassing moment.

Harris has largely stayed clear of interviews in recent years following an embarrassing encounter with NBC News host Lester Holt in 2021 when she infamously said that she'd "never been to Europe" when asked about whether she'd been to the border. Given this history, the campaign reportedly considered that Gov. Walz should do solo interviews but feared that he didn't know the specifics of his running mate's policy stances.

While the interview is not expected to be particularly challenging for the Democratic ticket, the American people can expect to get more answers from Harris during the ABC News debate on September 10. Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) will also debate Gov. Walz on CBS News on October 1.
