On Tuesday, yet another Florida lawmaker, Rep. John Rutherford (R-FL), endorsed the 45th President and leading 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump, making him the sixth Florida representative to endorse Trump for the nomination.
“Today, I am proud to endorse my friend, President Donald J. Trump,” Rutherford began in a Twitter post.
“As a former Sheriff, I understand the importance of a fair and impartial system of justice,” he explained. “The systemic targeting of Americans with conservative ideals, especially our 45th President of the United States, disgraces our nation’s legacy.”
“As strong Republicans, we must restore Law, Order, and Justice to our country, and President Trump is the right person to do it,” the Florida Republican emphasized.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, America was more safe, more secure, and more prosperous, and as the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump will Make America Great Again!”
In addition to Rutherford, other Florida lawmakers including Reps. Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna, Byron Donalds, Cory Mills, and Greg Steube have also endorsed Trump for the Republican nomination. With 20 Florida Republicans in the House, that means that Trump has already secured over 25 percent support from this important delegation.
BREAKING: DONALD TRUMP RETURNS TO INSTAGRAM IN FIRST POST IN OVER TWO YEARS
The endorsements of Trump come as Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has yet to announce his formal candidacy for the presidency meaning that six Florida Republicans have already decided to back Trump over DeSantis in a matchup.
Other Republicans have also taken Trump’s side with the 45th president having the support of nine Republican senators including Sens. Ted Budd (R-NC), Lindsay Graham (R-SC), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), and J.D. Vance (R-OH).
Given that Trump has already secured a number of endorsements from prominent Republicans, it is likely to have some sway on the Republican primary voter come 2024.
In comparison, Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has yet to officially announce, has secured endorsements from Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY). While there are still 14 other Florida Republicans who have yet to announce who they will support, it is clear that the next Republican candidate will come from the Sunshine State.
