Judge Hands Down New Decision In President Trump's Classified Documents Case - 'Gave The Dems Everything They Wanted'

Florida U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has set the date for the 45th President Donald J. Trump's upcoming trial in the matter of several documents he removed from the White House under his unilateral constitutional authority to declassify information.

In a ruling released Friday, Cannon set the date for the trial for May 20th, 2024 as a compromise between the Biden Department of Justice which pushed for December 11th, right in the middle of the election season, and Trump's legal team's request for a date after the conclusion of the 2024 election.

Pushing back the date from the prosecutor's request Cannon wrote,

"[T]he Government’s proposed schedule is atypically accelerated and inconsistent with ensuring a fair trial.”

The judge concluded that Trump's defense team was correct when they argued that the sheer amount of evidence to be examined prior to the trial, including several pieces of allegedly classified information, is "voluminous."

Her order explained, "As it stands, the Government's timeline spans less than six months from the first discovery production (June 21, 2023) to trial in a CIPA case involving, at the very least, more than 1.1 million pages of non-classified discovery produced thus far (some unknown quantity of which is described by the Government as "non-content"), at least nine months of camera footage (with disputes about pertinent footage), at least 1,545 pages of classified discovery ready to be produced (with more to follow), plus additional content from electronic devices and other sources yet to be turned over."

She added, “The Court finds that the interests of justice served by this continuance outweigh the best interest of the public and Defendants in a speedy trial."

Unless the trial is rescheduled it will take place shortly after Trump's upcoming New York civil trial for falsification of business records in relation to his financial transactions with former adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

As observed by Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk, while the May date doesn't coincide with any particular election date it is in the very midst of the primary season.

He noted, "Judge Aileen Cannon just gave the Dems everything they wanted by placing Trump's document trial in the heart of campaign season:
  • January 15, 2024 - Iowa Primary
  • March 5, 2024 - Super Tuesday with 12 state primaries
  • May 20, 2024 - Trial start date
  • May 21, 2024 - Oregon Primary
  • June 4, 2024 - Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota Primaries
  • July 15, 2024 - The Republican National Convention in Milwaukee
  • October 14, 2024 - Early voting begins in Georgia
  • November 5, 2024 - Election Day
Barring any future delays, it is conceivable that Trump—the top opposition candidate to the current Regime—could be tried, convicted, and in prison before Election Day. Election interference!"
