'Privileging Migrant Sex Criminals Over American Women': Majority Of Dems Vote Against Deporting Illegal Immigrants Who Commit Sex Crimes

On Wednesday, more than 150 House Democrats voted against legislation introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) that would have mandated deportation for illegal immigrants convicted of sexual offenses. Despite the stiff opposition from Democrats, the bill, the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, passed through the lower chamber on a vote of 266 to 158.

The legislation, which was supported by some Democrats but not the majority, made illegal immigrants who admit to or are convicted of domestic violence or sexual assault charges inadmissible to the United States. Rep. Mace emphasized that Democrats who vote against the legislation are anti-woman.

"If you vote against it, you're sexist against women," Mace told Fox News. "I mean, truly, because we're talking about illegals who are here who are committing domestic violence, rape, and murder on women and children — they've gotta go. They shouldn't be allowed into our country."

Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) said that the Democrat's unwillingness to support the legislation showed their hypocrisy on issues facing America's women, adding that Democrats are adamant about demanding access to abortion, but they "couldn't care less about allowing it into our country a flood of sexual offenders, domestic violence offenders, and child abusers. The Democrats say this is duplicative of existing law. Well, if that's true, why do they oppose it?"

Former Trump advisor Stephen Miller voiced similar disdain for the Democrats that voted against the legislation, writing on X, "A political party so radicalized it blocks the deportation of illegal alien sex predators is unworthy of any role in government. This is far, far beyond the realm of acceptable policy disagreement. Democrats are privileging migrant sex criminals over American women and children."

While 51 Democrats were willing to cross the aisle and vote for Mace's bill, progressive lawmakers argued that the legislation was xenophobic, per ABC News 4. "Here we are again, debating another partisan bill that fearmongers about immigrants instead of working together to fix the immigration system," Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said about the bill. "I probably shouldn't be too surprised. Scapegoating immigrants and attempting to weaponize the crime of domestic violence is appearing to be a time-honored tradition for Republicans."

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said that the bill was meant to "scapegoat and fearmonger" over immigrants entering the country illegally. "The redundancies in this bill all but assure that no additional dangerous individuals would face immigration consequences if it were to become law," he said.
