Rep. Ken Buck Calls On Cabinet To Invoke 25th Amendment And Remove Biden From Office - 'The Time Has Come'

President Joe Biden has had the issue of his age thrust into the limelight following special counsel Robert Hur's report on his mishandling of classified documents that noted that the aging Democrat forgot when he was vice president and when his son Beau died. Biden, who, in response to the report, conducted a surprise press conference where he mixed up the president of Egypt with the president of Mexico, has attempted to conduct damage control, but his repeated verbal gaffes continue to show his declining mental sharpness.

In response to Biden's age, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), a retiring congressman who has criticized House Republican impeachment efforts, introduced a resolution on Monday that would call upon Vice President Kamala Harris to convene the 15 cabinet secretaries to invoke the 25th Amendment. The 25th Amendment allows the president's Cabinet to hold a vote to remove the president if they deem him to be mentally or physically unable to perform his duties as Commander-in-Chief. The Senate and House of Representatives would then have to vote on whether the president would be removed, requiring two-thirds of each chamber to remove the president. No sitting president has been removed via the 25th Amendment.

Buck justified the resolution by citing Hur's report, telling the Washington Examiner, "Numerous instances were articulated in the report, and have played out in full public view, showing President Biden's apparent cognitive decline and lack of mental stamina. The societal challenges and security threats our country faces are innumerable and require a chief executive with both strong mental and physical faculties. The time has come for the vice president and the Cabinet to put our country first and move forward on invoking the 25th Amendment."

Buck went on to explain that Biden's various mental lapses are also cause for concern, including the mixing up of various European leaders with prime ministers who died decades ago. "It's clear - from both the Hur report and repeated public instances - that Biden no longer has the mental stamina needed to serve as president," the Colorado Republican added on X. "That's why I'm urging the vice president and Cabinet to remove President Biden via the 25th amendment."

Buck isn't the only Republican calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) insisted earlier this month that Attorney General Merrick Garland explore the possibility of utilizing the 25th Amendment.

"After concluding that President Biden knowingly and willfully removed, mishandled, and disclosed classified documents repeatedly over a period of decades, Mr. Hur nevertheless recommended that charges not be brought against him. Special Counsel's reasoning was alarming," Tenney wrote. "He recited numerous instances in which President Biden exhibited dramatically compromised mental faculties and concluded that a jury would be likely to perceive President Biden as a sympathetic and forgetful old man."

"We don't prosecute or decline to prosecute people based on their personalities or on the public's anticipated perception of them. If Special Counsel finds that the evidence forms a reasonable basis to bring charges, he must do so," she explained, adding that the DoJ must bring charges unless, as the report makes clear, Biden is mentally unfit to stand trial. "Being unable to remember what position he held, and when, is exceptionally concerning. Being unable to remember when one's child died – even within a time frame of several years – is perhaps more a more damning reflection of his mental impairment."

President Biden's age will surely be his downfall. While it is unlikely that the 25th Amendment will be invoked to remove him from office, voters are sending a clear message to Democrats. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, a recent ABC News/Ipsos survey conducted from February 9-10 shows that 86 percent of Americans believe Biden is too old to serve another term in the White House. When broken down by party, 73 percent of Democrats and 91 percent of independents said Biden was too old to serve.
