As the fentanyl crisis continues to ruin Americans' lives, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced a major amendment that works to fight against smugglers of fentanyl, giving anyone who smuggles the drug across the southern border the death penalty.
In a video shared by Benny Johnson, a conservative influencer, on Twitter, Greene introduced an amendment to H.R. 467, called the Halt Fentanyl Act, which would have “any person who knowingly or intentionally imports fentanyl or any fentanyl-related substance across the southern border shall be punished by death.”
Greene noted how in 2023, “CBP has seized over 17,000 pounds of fentanyl coming across the southwest border. This is enough fentanyl to kill over 3.8 billion people.”
The amendment introduced by MTG would go the distance to discourage and properly punish those who bring the evil drug into the American borders. Greene noted how the drug is the “number one killer of Americans between the ages of 18 and 45.” For something that poses such a major problem to Americans, killing “300 Americans per day,” it would seem to be something that would be addressed and handled quickly and harshly.
Many lawmakers have been unwilling to go the proper distance to ensure an end to the crisis, but Greene's amendment would change that. While many cities and states are promoting policies that lead to increasing numbers of fentanyl deaths, Greene is actively working to protect her constituents and every American.
Fentanyl is something that needs to be dealt with and dealt with quickly. Every day lawmakers dawdle accomplishing little to nothing, and Americans die from the drug. Greene’s amendment may seem extreme to some, but for people who are willingly bringing drugs that bring about the deaths of hundreds of thousands, it really doesn’t seem like much.

Fentanyl has become an increasingly growing crisis within America, with over 110,000 deaths from drug-related causes according to the Centers for Disease Control. While not all of these deaths result from fentanyl, the drug has shown itself to be one of the most lethal of all the drugs out there and undoubtedly is the one responsible for the most deaths in that number.🚨MTG introduces amendment to require death penalty for criminals who smuggle fentanyl across Southern border

The Halt Fentanyl Act takes some action to address these problems by “permanently listing all fentanyl-related substances on Schedule One of the Controlled Substances Act, and it creates a registration process for research into fentanyl-related compounds.”
