The Florida congressman has been an outspoken rival of the sexually-orientated shows being allowed to be held on military land, especially when the shows are funded by taxpayer money. Back on May 23rd, Gaetz sent a letter demanding answers from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley on the shows being held at bases.
"On March 29, 2023, during the House Armed Services Committee hearing on the ‘FY24 Defense Budget Request,’ I questioned you about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the Department of Defense (DoD),” the letter read. “I find it completely unacceptable that DoD is using taxpayer dollars to fund DEI programs that are divisive in nature. DoD resources should be used for mission-essential operations, not diverted toward initiatives that create cultural fissures within our service ranks."
“When I highlighted specific cases of drag queen store hours and drag shows occurring on U.S. military bases, shockingly, you indicated you were unaware that such events are taking place,” the letter continued. “However, I am pleased to know you do not support these drag events and agree with me that they should not be happening.”
The letter specifically highlighted the June 17th show that occurred at the Nellis Air Force Base in 2022, asking, "Under what authority does a commander approve, host and fund burlesque shows on a military base utilizing taxpayer funding?" The commander referenced was Colonel Josh DeMotts, who is still serving as the Nellis base commander, according to its website.Lying Lloyd Austin https://t.co/aqGx8XljV1 pic.twitter.com/R5sSNtj7Jw

It seems that Gaetz's persistence paid off, as this year the event was canceled.
“Per DoD Joint Ethics Regulation (JER), certain criteria must be met for persons or organizations acting in non-Federal capacity to use DoD facilities and equipment,” Sabrina Singh, deputy press secretary for the Department of Defense, informed the Daily Caller.
The Sunshine State representative took to his Twitter to share the exciting news, writing, “Happy Pride Month!” and linking a Fox News article discussing the event's cancellation.
These events have no right to utilize the money put forth by taxpayers to fund such immoral activities. The military cannot be using funds provided by taxpayers to fund hyper-left ideological events and it’s good to see that at least one has been stopped.Happy Pride Month! https://t.co/45pCxyyz00
