Republicans FURIOUS Over Debt Deal Reached By McCarthy, House Freedom Caucus Takes MAJOR Action In Response

Republican lawmakers in Congress are not pleased with the deal that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) struck with President Joe Biden, with many calling to vote against the bill for getting only limited concessions on the Democrats' end.

McCarthy reached the deal with Biden on Saturday night, claiming that the deal had the largest spending cuts for the IRS in the history of the nation, per the DC Enquirer. The bill did not end up being everything the House Speaker claimed it to be nor even close to that. The lopsided deal has caused many Republicans to come out in droves against the bill, despite McCarthy’s claim that 95 percent of Republicans in Congress support it.

Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) slammed the deal on Twitter, writing, “The DC Swamp has proposed the largest debt ceiling increase in our nation’s history - $4 trillion!!” The representative then added all the different negatives of the agreement, such as failing to eliminate the 87,000 IRS agents that the Biden administration added or curtailing Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) wrote on her personal Twitter, “Idk about you, but increasing the national debt another $4 trillion is not a WIN for Americans. It’s a win for special interests and the uni-party.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also slammed the bill, writing, “He’s right. There’s not ‘one thing’ for Dems. There are $4 trillion things–a blank check–for Democrats. Plus 87,000 things: new IRS agents to harass Americans. All in exchange for eliminating virtually ALL of the House’s spending cuts.”

Even the Twitter community notes blasted the deal with McCarthy by placing a fact check on the Speaker's tweet announcing the deal. “Republicans are changing the direction of Washington with a responsible debt limit that cuts spending, re-establishes work requirements, and claws back tens of billions in unspent COVID funds,”McCarthy claimed. In response to this the Twitter community note wrote that the agreement, in fact, does not cut back on spending, but instead limits the increase of spending.

The House Freedom Caucus has taken the bold step to threaten Speaker McCarthy with a motion to vacate the speakership if the debt deal is brought to the floor for a vote, with the group writing, "if it goes through, then we will have no choice but to introduce a motion to vacate."

It’s clear the Republicans are very divided on the agreement made by Speaker McCarthy, with some Republicans in support of its passage but a potentially greater amount extremely discontent with the massive budget increase that was given to the Democrats. For a party that wishes to keep government spending to a minimum, providing $4 trillion in wiggle room for the Democrats to add onto seems like a large concession for what is given.
