Republicans In North Carolina Override Democrat Governor, Secure Major Victory Against Transgenderism To Protect Youth

Despite Governor Roy Cooper (D-NC) vetoing the bill, on Wednesday the North Carolina legislature managed to get through three massive bills by override that protect children from gender transition surgeries and other ‘gender-affirming’ care. 

House Bill 808 or the Act to Prohibit Gender Transition Procedures for Minors, was vetoed by the governor back in early July. He vetoed it alongside House Bill 574, the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, and Senate Bill 49, the Parents’ Bill of Rights, which both also had their vetoes overridden by the Republican supermajority in the legislature. 

“For campaign purposes only, Republicans are serving up a triple threat of political culture wars using government to invade the rights and responsibilities of parents and doctors, hurting vulnerable children and damaging our state’s reputation and economy as they did with the harmful bathroom bill,” the governor said in a statement at the time. “Instead of scheming for the next election, Republicans should get to work investing in our public schools and teachers, lowering the cost of living and creating more stability for middle-class families.”

Despite the Democrat's best efforts, Republicans have secured proper protection for children within the state from the harmful transgender ideology, becoming the 22nd state to ban transgender surgeries for minors. The three bills in tandem work as a major victory for conservatives in the state by ensuring that children are protected in all facets of life in North Carolina, whether it’s in sports or school.

HB 808 does provide an exception for minors that already began treatment before August 1st if their doctor deems it medically necessary, though the cases are intended to be a very limited amount. 

Gov. Cooper released a comment whining about the legislature passing “legislation that discriminates,” arguing instead that they should be focusing on a budget for the state. He claimed that the veto overrides were “the wrong priorities” and that they need to be working “nights and weekends” on the budget.

Despite any possible pushback from angry Democrats in the state, a veto override of the three bills is a major victory for conservatives or any common-sense resident of North Carolina. Allowing the left to continue to push harmful ideas onto impressionable children that result in irreversible and life-altering surgeries is dangerous and should never be allowed.

The argument on transgender ideology should not include children, given that they can convince themselves that they are Batman just as easily as they can convince themselves that they are trapped in the wrong body. Protecting children should always come first.
