Right Out Of Gate, Howard Stern Asks Harris If She Disdains Talking About Herself

Sirius XM personality Howard Stern began his Tuesday interview with Vice President Kamala Harris by asking if she does not like talking about herself.

Harris participated in a friendly media blitz Tuesday, where she appeared on “The View,” “The Howard Stern Show” and is set to make an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The vice president confirmed to Stern that she was raised with the belief that it is “immodest” to talk about oneself.

“You’ve said, sort of running for office, even when you ran as a [district attorney] or an attorney general, you said ‘I don’t like talking about myself. I was raised not to be a narcissist.’ And here, [Republican nominee Donald Trump] is so only talking about himself. But it’s weird, it’s odd for you to talk about your accomplishments and sort of congratulate yourself,” Stern said.

“I just have always, you’re right. I was raised this way. It’s not about you, it’s about what you do,” Harris answered. “And so, it is. It feels immodest for me to talk about myself, which apparently I’m doing right now … And a friend of mine actually said, ‘look, this is not a time to worry about modesty because this is, you know, obviously you got to let people know who you are.”

Harris delayed giving interviews until one month after the launch of her campaign in July and has participated in fewer number of interviews than any other presidential nominee in modern history, Axios reported in mid-September. She and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz sat down for their first interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Aug. 29, where she failed to explain why she had changed several of her key policy positions from her days as a U.S. senator and 2020 presidential candidate.

The vice president recently appeared on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, and appeared on MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle program for a Sept. 25 solo sit-down interview. Ruhle jumped to Harris’ defense during a Sept. 27 segment on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” saying the vice president did not give detailed answers on her economic policy because “she’s a politician.”

Harris’ first hard-hitting interview occurred on “60 Minutes” Monday night, where CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker pressed her on the economy, her changes in policies, and the border crisis.

The vice president told “The View” co-hosts that “not a thing comes to mind” on what she would do differently from President Joe Biden in the last four years.
