Former President Donald Trump slammed House Majority Whip Tom Emmer on Tuesday following his nomination for speaker.
Emmer secured a majority of the votes during the fifth round of the House GOP conference’s secret ballot. Trump took to Truth Social after the nomination, calling Emmer a Republican-In-Name-Only (RINO) and criticizing the majority whip for not supporting him.
“I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them. He never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA—MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!,” Trump wrote. “He fought me all the way, and actually spent more time defending Ilhan Omar, than he did me—He is totally out-of-touch with Republican Voters. I believe he has now learned his lesson, because he is saying that he is Pro-Trump all the way, but who can ever be sure? Has he only changed because that’s what it takes to win?”
“The Republican Party cannot take that chance, because that’s not where the America First Voters are. Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!” Trump continued.
Emmer was one of nine House Republicans vying for the nomination after Majority Leader Steve Scalise and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan failed to receive enough support to secure the gavel. Jordan’s bid failed three times on the House floor, where he shed Republican votes each round, and Scalise withdrew his nomination prior to a vote.
It is not clear whether Emmer will have the support necessary to win the speakership, as 26 House Republicans have since come out against the majority whip during a roll call vote, according to Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman.
Emmer did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Why is it that every pompous has-been has to put their two cents in where it doesn't belong. Donald Trump is a s pompous as they get and it only interested in hearing himself speak. He, in retrospect, got nothing permanent accomplished in his four years in the White House. We look at the economy under his administration, however little became permanent, only temporary by executive fiat. That is not presidential. Yes you must overturn stupidity AKA "Biden Rule", but that is only step one. Following up with permanent legislation is needed to make positive actions permanent. Anyone who votes for this arrogant fool, even in the primary, should have their voter registration revoked. He is too old, too self centered and too arrogant. We need a tried and accomplished leader who knows, from experience how to maneuver through the halls of congress not a snake-oil salesman who can talk a big stick and tell us how great he is or a relic to sleep his way through the next four years. Stop listening to what he, and those like him say. They have no business injecting themselves into congressional decisions.
