Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continues to push for strong control of the southern American border, with a thread on Monday saying that the necessity to increase the border's strength “is not xenophobia, bigotry, or hate. The reason is humanitarian conscience.”
Kennedy has been an open critic of the Biden administration's border policy, having visited it and seen what was going on at the overwhelmed border back in June, per the DC Enquirer. He has openly referred to it as a humanitarian crisis but strays from many others who make the same claims and says that the solution is strong border security and not allowing mass illegals to pour into the country.
“When it comes to the divisive issue of border policy, here is the first principle I want everyone to understand,” RFK tweeted. “The reason for strong border control is not xenophobia, bigotry, or hate. The reason is humanitarian conscience. #Kennedy24.”
“Democrats and Republicans can agree that the humanitarian nightmare that has resulted from essentially handing immigration policy to the drug cartels is unacceptable. We need to take back control,” he continued. “I am in favor of immigration. But it must be lawful, orderly, and at a volume the country can absorb without straining social resources.” The largest concern for Kennedy at the border is not the thousands of illegals but the way that the cartel takes advantage of the confusion to funnel drugs and human trafficking into it. RFK notes that getting the border under control and stemming “the tide of migrants” will make it much harder for South American cartels to function on the border as they are now. The Democrat suggests numerous different measures to tighten border security such as “Cameras, motion detectors, lights, and where necessary, physical barriers.” Kennedy has noted before that he doesn’t support the idea of having a full wall across the entire border but instead only believes in having a physical barrier in high-density sections of the border. RFK also would hire more immigration judges to prevent illegals from being able to “claim asylum + put down roots awaiting court date years in the future.” Finally, he finishes by advocating for stability in Latin America, calling for an end to “supporting coups, juntas + death squads.” The take on border security provided by Kennedy is different from that of a right-leaning politician but serves as a solid middle ground. Of course, Kennedy is concerned with protecting American citizens, considering he is wanting to bring down the cartel controlling the border, but he is just as concerned with the border as a humanitarian crisis. The difference between what RFK and so many other Democrats believe is that he actually intends to stop the crisis he sees rather than let it simply fester until any control is lost. The Biden administration has already made its intent very clear by allowing tens of thousands of migrants to flood in every week with nothing there to prevent them from doing so.
