DeSantis Voices Support For Daniel Penny, Defense Fund Raises MILLIONS To Defend Against New York DA Alvin Bragg's Charges

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has come out to express his support for former US Marine Daniel Penny, who is currently facing manslaughter charges from the city of New York for putting Jordan Neely, a homeless man who was threatening passengers on the subway, into a submission hold that resulted in his death.

Per Fox News, Penny was arraigned on Friday for second-degree manslaughter charges in the death of Jordan Neely. The lawyers for Penny’s defense are arguing that the former Marine did what he could do to protect other passengers from the danger posed by Neely.

DeSantis took to Twitter to voice his sympathy in Penny’s case, bashing the New York City District Attorney Alvin Bragg for failing to do his job properly.

"We must defeat the Soros-Funded DAs, stop the Left's pro-criminal agenda, and take back the streets for law abiding citizens. We stand with Good Samaritans like Daniel Penny. Let’s show this Marine... America’s got his back," DeSantis tweeted on Friday, linking to Daniel Penny’s GiveSendGo page for his legal fees, which was set up by the law firm providing the 24-year-old's defense.

"Funds are being raised to pay Mr. Penny’s legal fees incurred from any criminal charges filed and any future civil lawsuits that may arise, as well as expenses related to his defense," the GiveSendGo page states. "All contributions are greatly appreciated. Any proceeds collected which exceed those necessary to cover Mr. Penny’s legal defense will be donated to a mental health advocacy program in New York City."

The GiveSendGo campaign has garnered support from many donors across the United States, currently having over $1.4 million donated to his legal defense with over 30,000 different individual donors.

The case of Daniel Penny and Jordan Neely shows a complete failure on New York City’s end. Instead of focusing on how best to house illegal migrants in the city and dedicating billions of taxpayer dollars to that, maybe the city should turn to the mentally ill criminals they’ve let loose on the streets.

Neely was a clearly unwell man, having 42 prior arrests according to Newsweek. Someone like that isn’t safe to be let out into the public, and they present a danger to themself. Nonetheless, Alvin Bragg has let these criminals run free as law-abiding citizens fend for themselves, all while Mayor Eric Adams (D) dedicates city resources to shutting down streets to home illegals.

New York City has faced many problems over the years, and crime is undoubtedly one sitting in the center. The city should really reconsider its priorities in the coming time, to whether it wants to properly ensure the welfare of its citizens and the safety of its streets, or if they’d prefer to import migrants to flood the job market and lower wages, making it even more impossible to afford to live in the Big Apple.
