SHOCKING: Denver Councilwoman Wants To Implement Racist Taxes On White Business Owner's As 'Reparations'

On Thursday, a Denver City Council Member, Candi CdeBaca, put out a TikTok of herself at a forum, claiming that white-owned businesses should be taxed extra and then have that money redistributed back to black-owned businesses.

CdeBaca, a 37-year-old Democratic Socialist who is currently running for reelection, told a business forum on Thursday of her idea to apply extra taxes to the white-owned businesses, per her own TikTok account. CdeBaca claims that “Capitalism was built on stolen land, stolen labor, and stolen resources.”

The idea is to compensate minority groups for the resources that she claims were stolen because of racist policies.

The forum she spoke at was hosted by The Great Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance, which is a group of Black clergy dedicated to civil rights and social justice. Several other candidates spoke at the forum as well.

CdeBaca’s pitch was to change an existing business improvement district (BID) in the economically depressed area of the Five Points neighborhood within her district to only collect taxes from white-owned businesses and in turn, return those funds to the businesses owned by minority groups.  CdeBaca claims that other reparation proposals put forth by the city, such as Denver’s Daily Basic Income program, do not properly address the structure of racism. The daily basic income would focus too heavily on helping out homeless people, as opposed to all people of color, for instance. CdeBaca believes that is not enough.

CdeBaca believes the goals of reparations “should not be survival, it should be repairing the harm, which is this entire economy.”

Critics of CdeBaca have fought against her plans, citing that it is illegal under both federal and state law to implement. CdeBaca countered this saying that the constitutionality of the tax is ‘not a factor’ as the taxes from the business improvement district would be ‘voluntary.’ However, according to 9News, a spokesman for Denvers’s Department of Finance said that was untrue.

CdeBaca has attempted to blame all the pushback on her racist and radical plan on a “white nationalist mob.” CdeBaca is quoted as saying “I will not be silenced by the far-right playbook. A nuanced discussion about reparations is necessary, but that opportunity has been taken from us by the right-wing outrage machine. This kind of discussion is not going to happen in this media landscape.”

CdeBaca’s plan seems wholly delusional, with it violating both state and federal law. The councilwoman is so lost on her quest for extreme civil justice she has begun to circle right back around to actively fighting against racial equality, just with the shoe on the other foot this time.
