The act of advocating for the traditional family, composed of a mother, father, and children, is not only “un-American” according to Democratic South Dakota state Rep. Erin Healy but “dangerous,” as well.
She even referred to an advocacy group forwarding the view as “Extremist.”
Healy, as reported by The Daily Caller, issued a rebuke toward the Family Heritage Alliance, a South Dakota lobbying group, when they stated that a stable home with a married mother and father is the safest environment for a child.
This utterly non-controversial, widely-held view is supported by studies such as one from the Fordham Institute cited by a supporter.
Healy tweeted Tuesday, “Extremist group Family Heritage Alliance said this morning that the safest place for kids are in families that have a married mom and dad. What a dangerous and un-American belief.”

After a hail of replies pointing out the numerous government and academic studies that confirm the traditional view, the South Dakota lawmaker hastily limited replies to the tweet.

Daily Caller News Foundation cited a 2010 report from the Department of Health and Human Services under former President Barack Obama that stated the lowest rates of maltreatment occurs with children living with their married biological parents.
Laurel Duggan writing for Daily Caller added,
“Further, children whose single parents had a live-in partner saw the highest rates of physical and sexual abuse compared to children in other living situations, according to the study; 15.4 out of 1,000 of this group experienced physical abuse and 12.1 of 1,000 experienced sexual abuse, compared to 2.5 and 0.7 out of 1,000 respectively for children with married biological parents.”
This is well established, uncontroversial, and obviously not un-American to believe. How sealed does one’s echo chamber have to be to tweet something like this? https://t.co/T3KU1B1skv
