The 40-year-old actor took to Instagram with a picture of his father waving a tennis racket with a heartfelt caption that praised the late Williams for his unique style.
"Dad, on the 9th anniversary of your passing, I'm remembering you for your most excellent fashion choices," Zak wrote. "These days are always hard and I love remembering you for being so very, very YOU. Love you so much!"
The acclaimed actor died on August 11, 2014 from suicide, as reported by Fox News Digital. Prior to his death, Robin, who had struggled with addiction throughout his life, had relapsed and had just completed rehab. Following his death, it was revealed that he had also been suffering from Lewy Body Dementia.
Lewy Body Dementia is a terrible disease that, according to the Mayo Clinic, is the second most common dementia behind Alzheimer's. "Protein deposits called Lewy bodies develop in nerve cells in the brain. The protein deposits affect brain regions involved in thinking, memory, and movement," the Mayo Clinic explains. "Lewy body dementia causes a decline in mental abilities that gradually gets worse over time. People with Lewy body dementia might see things that aren't there. This is known as visual hallucinations. They also may have changes in alertness and attention."
"People with Lewy body dementia might experience Parkinson's disease symptoms," the clinic adds. "These symptoms may include rigid muscles, slow movement, trouble walking, and tremors."
Last month, Zak and Robin's daughter Zelda Williams took to social media to wish a happy 72nd birthday to their late father. Zak took to Instagram, writing, "Happy 72nd Dad! Was remembering how much I used to love that look you'd give. That look with a mischievous, loving grin that your friends and loved ones knew so well. Joyous and curious and wondrous. Miss you and love you forever!"
Zelda William issued her tribute on Twitter, writing that her father would have been marching among those participating in the SAF-AFTRA strike: "Happy birthday to Poppo, who definitely would’ve been out there fighting the good fight for art and artists today and always."
It is clear that Robin's children, much like millions of Americans, miss the comedic wit and impeccable joy that Robin Williams brought to the big screen and in comedy shows. Even nine years later, he is dearly missed.
