Bad News For Disney: 'Sound Of Freedom' BLASTS Past Indiana Jones On Opening Day

Angel Studio’s latest inspiring work ‘Sound of Freedom’ was able to claim the top box office spot on the Fourth of July, managing to beat out Disney’s ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,’ which has so far been vastly underperforming the mega-corporations expectations.

‘Sound of Freedom’ has had an incredible journey to rise to that spot, with Mel Gibson, who promoted the film, asking for $5 million in presale tickets, a number that moviegoers were more than able to double for the premiere. The movie earned more than $14 million on its opening day, according to Box Office Mojo. Such a meteoric success is even better news when the message of the movie is taken into account.

The movie is about the real-life child sex trafficking ring that exists throughout Latin America and the United States, something that is often missing from the conversation. The movie itself is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former CIA agent who becomes frustrated only capturing people who watched child pornography and not catching those responsible for making the evil product. The movie follows the story quite closely according to History v Hollywood but does make some minor edits to allow it to better fit the golden screen.

While the film is centered around an important topic that has reportedly led many moviegoers to tears, some in the mainstream press have gone after the movie in an effort to politicize it.

Variety released an article praising the film's star actor, Jim Caviezel, for his performance, however, they weren't afraid to attempt to tie the film to the alt-right.

“‘Sound of Freedom’ has been heavily marketed on right-wing media, like Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire, and — one of the grand subtexts of all of this — in taking on the issue of the horrific criminals who kidnap and traffic children, the film could be seen as adjacent to the alt-right paranoia that was originally stoked by 4Chan and QAnon: the wing-nut conspiracy theory about a Washington, D.C., pizza parlor being a front for a pedophile ring, extending into the larger conspiracy theory that says that the whole culture of liberalism is a racket to protect and cover up a cabal of pedophiles,” the article read.

Despite the criticism, Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon celebrated the movie's momentous success.

“Thanks to fans around the country, SOUND OF FREEDOM earned the top spot as America’s number one movie on Independence Day. We’ve received numerous messages telling us theaters are either packed or sold out. This movie has now taken on a life of its own to become something more than that, a grassroots movement,” the head of Angel Studios said. “With an A+ CinemaScore rating, we’re the top-rated movie in America, and we’re going to see word-of-mouth spread even further going into the weekend. The world needs to see SOUND OF FREEDOM, and we know that our biggest competitive advantage—our incredible fans and investors—are going to make sure that happens.”

It is becoming increasingly clear that Americans are waking up to the reality of child trafficking thanks to 'Sound of Freedom'. You can find the film at a theater near you here.
