Texas Border Democrat Switches Parties Amid 'Unprecedented Crisis' At The Border

On Saturday, Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate a county attorney switching from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, citing the “unprecedented crisis” as the reason for the party swap.

Kleberg County Attorney General Kira Talip was the individual who did the party swap. Kleberg is among the southernmost counties in the state of Texas and has a direct connection to the Gulf of Mexico which many migrants swim through to reach the Lone Star State. The county is historically a blue locality, though, during both George W. Bush’s election and Trump's in 2020, the county leaned red. 

"As County Attorney, I have been proud to work with law enforcement to ensure the safety of the citizens of Kleberg County," Sanchez said in a statement. "There is an unprecedented crisis at our southern border. I believe that the GOP’s policies of law and order protecting safety, and backing the blue best align with my values and the values of the citizens of Kleberg County. I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep South Texas safe."

Gov. Abbott took notice of the announcement and celebrated another South Texas swap, writing, “ANOTHER South Texas switch from Democrat to Republican. Welcome to the Texas Republican Party Kira. You are spot on to emphasize law & order, protecting safety, and backing the blue. These are core principles of the Republican Party.”

As the largest border state with the most opportunity available, Texas has seen massive droves of illegal migrants pouring across the border during the ongoing crisis since the end of Title 42. The governor has been aggressive in trying to deal with the issue, consistently sending migrants to sanctuary cities like New York City and Chicago, per a press release. 

The border has also seen record numbers of drugs, specifically fentanyl, coming across the border. Texas has managed to seize over 419 million lethal doses of fentanyl, enough to kill the entire population of America and then some.

With all these different factors stacking up, it’s no wonder that southern Texas county officials are switching parties. Allowing things to continue is extremely dangerous for citizens on top of the immense cost at hand to care for the migrants. The United States needs to always be putting its own people before some illegal hoping to siphon resources away from Americans in need. The American people are beginning to wake up to that reality.
