At the Wednesday Congressional hearing, Special Counsel John H. Durham made it very clear to Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) where his priorities lie regarding his reputation.
As previously covered by the DC Enquirer, the report released by special counsel John Durham shows damning evidence against the Department of Justice and the FBI for their investigation into Donald Trump's supposed collusion with Russia during the 2016 election. The investigation concluded that the FBI rushed into their investigation, utilizing unreliable intelligence or willfully ignoring information that goes against their collusion theory.
Durham appeared to testify before the House Judiciary Committee over the bombshell report to defend and explain what he had concluded. The Democrats have been pushing back against the findings of the Durham report, wanting Trump to be looked at further over the bogus claims of Russian collusion.
Cohen attempted to corner Durham during the hearing, claiming that the information from the grand jury report by then-Attorney General William Barr should’ve been included in his report.
“You had a good reputation. That’s why the two Democrats supported you,” the Tennessee representative said while questioning Durham. “But the longer you hold on to Mr. Barr, and this report that Mr. Barr gave you as special counsel, your reputation will be damaged, as everybody’s reputation who gets involved with Mr. Trump is damaged. He’s damaged goods. There’s no good dealing with him because you will end up on the bottom of a pyre.”
Durham initially attempted to respond to Cohen’s comments, but the time for the congressman had run out. Durham finally got his chance to respond when committee chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) came on for questioning and allowed elaboration.
“My concern about my reputation is with the people who I respect: my family, and my Lord, and I am perfectly comfortable with my reputation with them, Sir.”
Such a pious and humble response shut down any of the fun Cohen had while attempting to attack Durham and his character. When a man holds only what matters most close to him and ignores all else, he will become a man truly free, and Durham seemed to do so precisely.
Durham is taking a stand for our American values and exposing much of the rot and corruption constitutive of our government bureaucracies. We, the people, demand better -- much better indeed. Public servants are servants of the people. After all, our government and its officials work for us. We do not work for them.
